Eternal boy Denis Vashurin might be 33 according to his passport, but his appearance doesn’t match his age. Although he was relatively slight as a child, he stopped ageing altogether in his early teens. Never having grown taller than 149 cm, first, he was frustrated and felt trapped in the body that didn’t fit his personality, but soon realised his boyish looks don’t have to be an obstacle to a good life.

Slavyanka village in Primorsky Krai, where Denis lives, is quite literally the land’s end: it’s the farthest realm of the Russian Far East, almost at the border with China and North Korea. Living on the shores of a cold sea surrounded by untouched wilderness roamed by tigers requires strength of character and a great deal of self-reliance. Denis Vashurin, an avid hunter and explorer of the region’s natural wonders, might look like a teenager, but he’s as mature as a man can be. After all, only a truly wise person could conclude that “most important is to come to terms with yourself here and now, with your soul and your mind. Only then you’ll find harmony with the world around you.”

Denis may joke that “the downside of adulthood is that you have to work”, but he has a steady job at a power station and has built a great life for himself. Being more level-headed than some men twice his height and size and having a winning personality, he is well-liked by his friends and has a long-time girlfriend. Sometimes he still has to deal with insensitive and callous people that find it easier to judge him by appearance, but he’s largely come to terms with the way he is. Rather than hiding from the world, he decided to go all-out and start a video blog where he unveils exotic locations and incredible natural beauties of the Far East while sharing his daily struggles caused by living in a child’s body.
