In 2008, when Dinny Jusuf came home to her husband's hometown, Toraja, she learned that many women there had to work abroad as domestic helpers in order to earn a leaving, where often they experienced sexual harassment. She then initiated Toraja Melo which aimed to create a better life for the women in Toraja as weavers and at the same time preserve and rejuvenate Indonesian hand-woven textile art and culture.
Having worked in Citibank and her own bussiness training consultancy for 15 years, Dinny Jusuf co-founded several non-profit organizations, including Suara Ibu Peduli (The Voice of Concerned Mothers), whose main activities are education and micro-finance for urban poor women of Jakarta. She was also active in the Indonesian National commission on Anti Violence Against Women (Komnas Perempuan) with her last position as Secretary General in 2007.
