Balkan-Istanbul - two motorcycles exploring
The mountainous Balkan Peninsula in southeastern Europe is full of different cultures, languages and people. We set out on a trip to meet the people and ride through these amazing landscapes. Many of the places we visited are great destinations with a lot to offer for the tourist who likes to venture off the usual paths. Go and visit the Balkan Peninsula, the people are great, the food is delicious and there are many different cultures to explore!
In three weeks we visited Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Albania, Kosovo, Macedonia, Bulgaria, Turkey and Greece. It was only enough to scratch on the surface of what these countries have to offer, we surely will be back.
The route:
From Switzerland we rode through the Po Valley to Slovenia and Croatia, where we rode along the coast road to Starigrad. This is where we left the mediterranean and went into the backcountry to Bosnia and Herzegovina and Mostar, through Piva and Tara Canyon in Montenegro. The Koman ferry in Albania brought us closer to the kosovan border and on to Macedonia. From here the route brought us straight across Bulgaria to the Black Sea, which we followed to Istanbul. This being the turning point of the trip, we only went westwards from now on, through Greece and back up north through Albania. From Durrës we took the ferry to Italy and after many hours on the Autostrada we reached our homes in Switzerland.
