5 Terrible Ways To Start a Solo (And What To Do Instead)

Today I invited my friend Robert Baker to talk about How you should not start your solo and how to fix it.

We came up with these five ways:

1. Don't start with outside playing. Start with something easy on the audience's ears and reserve the "out" playing for later.

2. Don't throw your flashy playing at the beginning. Start the conversation with a simple opening statement and build your solo.

3. Don't start off with something that is not in control like a vibrato that's out of key or pitchy bends. Take control of your solo.

4. Don't start at full volume, full distortion. Use you guitar's volume knob and test the musical situation you are in volume wise.

5. Don't start in the middle of the section. Know where your time is.
