Preparing police cars for patrol

Before a car can be used for patrol it has to be turned into a fully operational police car - that's where the force's transport services department comes in.
The team, based at Boreham, convert up to 200 ordinary cars into the police cars every year.
The cars arrive at Essex Police's garages direct from the manufacturer and within 24 hours are converted into response cars complete with sirens, blue lights, data recorders and the familiar blue and yellow markings.
