PROCEDURE to Hone and Polish Travertine, Terrazzo, Marble and Limestone Floors (2:12):
1. The lower the grit number, the more aggressive the hone, just like with sandpaper.
2. Test in an inconspicuous area to determine the ease of application and desired results. (2:21)
3. Make sure surface is clean, dry and free of waxes and coatings. (2:36)
4. If surface is heavily soiled, pre-clean with StoneTech Klenz-All™. (2:42)
5. Mask off baseboards, carpet, etc., with protective plastic and/or blue painter’s tape. (2:50)
6. If you are using a variety of abrasive grits, ensure that the surface is well rinsed and a new Gorilla Hogs Hair Natural Pad is used for each changeover.
7. Apply about 1/2 cup Honing Powder plus 1 cup clean water to stone surface. (3:07)
8. Refinish using a hand orbital sander or weighted heavy-duty 175 rpm floor machine at 130 to 140 lbs., 175 rpm, fitted with a pad driver and a Gorilla natural hair pad. (3:13)
9. Keep compound wet while buffing with plenty of water. Add Honing Powder as needed. (3:21)
10. Buff area until desired level of hone is achieved. (3:26)
11. Rinse well and use a wet vacuum or hot water extraction unit to remove all excess compound. (3:35)
12. Clean equipment with water. (3:40)
13. Use successively higher grits of Honing Powder to close the face of the stone and follow with StoneTech Polishing Powder as applicable.
14. NOTE: THIS PROCESS SHOULD ONLY BE USED BY EXPERIENCED, TRAINED TECHNICIANS. We STRONGLY suggest attending a hands-on training class at the Bane-Clene Indianapolis training center. We suggest you watch the YouTube video and even purchase the Training DVD’s.
15. Proper care of honed and polished stone such as marble: To maintain the stone’s natural beauty, seal the surface with Sta-Clene®, StoneTech Stone Sealer, Impregnator Pro™ or Bullet Proof™. For maintenance cleaning, use StoneTech Revitalizer™ or All Purpose Stone & Tile Cleaner. (3:52)
16. Hands-On class demonstrating procedure. (4:10)
