Here are the first images and information on the all-new 2022 Nissan Pathfinder, which is due to arrive this summer. First things first, this all-new model does not have a CVT! It has a 9-speed automatic, plus a new 4WD system with 7 terrain settings. All Canadian spec Pathfinders will get standard 4WD. So this is good news, no CVT and the Pathfinder is still capable of towing up to 6000lbs.
Nissan claims that this new 2022 Pathfinder was inspired by the original Pathfinder, which was introduced 35 years ago, a model with a boxy design and faired fenders, or what Nissan calls blister fenders. The original slotted hood design featured on the original is mirrored here. The front has a long hood with a short overhang and a more vertical front design. This, plus the squarer V-Motion grille design and modified boomerang LED headlamps still look like a Nissan but with a more rugged and purposeful design. I like the back of this new Pathfinder the best with the bold script across the back of the boxy tailgate with thinner rear lights and for the first time offered with a two-tone paint scheme.
The interior of the new 2022 Pathfinder has seating for 7 or 8-passengers with either a second row bench seat or captains chairs. With the third row up, the back cargo space was designed to take 4 golf bags and with all the seats down large enough for a 4X8 sheet of plywood. The front features a standard 8-inch infotainment screen with standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto but Apple can be used wirelessly. Also, there is an optional 9-inch unit and wireless phone charging. In addition the Pathfinder can be equipped with a 12.3-inc digital nutriment cluster and a 10.8-inch head up display. The dash and design looks good to me and like a bigger version of what was introduced recently with the very good Nissan Rogue. Between the front seats is a new bridge console with storage underneath.
Power comes from the trusty 3.5L V6 284hp and 259lb.-ft. of torque. If you missed it, the Pathfinder now comes with a 9-speed automatic, no CVT any longer and it is matched to a new 4WD system. Nissan claims that this new model is quieter thanks to more sound insulation and acoustic glass.
Well, there it is, the all-new 2022 Nissan Pathfinder, due this coming summer. With solid introductions this past year of the vastly improved Sentra and Rogue, this new Pathfinder shows that Nissan is fighting back, offering the features and especially the transmission people wanted in this historic nameplate.
