Making an Edwardian Gibson Girl Lace Blouse
Hello everyone and welcome to a new video!
I have been really -really- digging the Edwardians for the past few months, so when I decided to incorporate more historically inspired items into my wardrobe, I knew an Edwardian lace blouse was ESSENTIAL. I found this pattern by Folkwear, the Gibson Girl blouse (https://www.folkwear.com/collections/vintage/products/205-gibson-girl-blouse?variant=32371436060738), which looked perfect. I wasn't able to find as fine insertion lace as I wanted, so instead I used leftover lace from my Edwardian combinations. It doesn't look as delicate as I wanted it to... but I still like it!
I was having some trouble sourcing this pattern in the UK so many thanks to Jenn (@msjennmakes on Instagram, https://www.instagram.com/msjennmakes/) for sending me this pattern. It wouldn't have been possible otherwise!
Overall, I am fairly pleased with the pattern. The instructions were easy to follow, and the pattern itself is gorgeous. I mention at the end that there are two options to cut the length of the back. I have quite a short torso and I picked the longest length and still this is a little short for me, even to tuck into a skirt, so I would just beware. I also mentioned I wasn't too fussed about the gathered ruffle at the top of the collar - I still feel this way and am quite certain I will remove it.
I am so excited to make some more variations of this so I can have endless long skirt/shirtwaist combos. #historybound
