This technology would also make an excellent desoldering tool. For example one laser handpiece that would accept tips each of which will have mirrors right above the pins of the ic to be desoldered. Or movable mirrors with micro servos!

jep and there where other mistakes that had to be manually removed as well but on the other hand awsome! need to get a powerful laser and do a handhelt version.

You take a multilayer pcb with an exceptionally thick ground plane, and this would blow away ERSA or jade soldering by far. For that matter, in the case of fine pitch soldering, especially on a lead free assembly, this would do what cannot currently be done with either of those methods. I like this!
