DJI Inspire controller disconnected - fixed

In this video I explain the issues I’ve been having with the DJI Inspire 1 Pro controller intermittently not connecting to the ground station tablet or phone. It just randomly says Disconnected in the top bar of the DJI Go app. Initially this looked simply like a device compatibility problem but the frequency of disconnection has recently increased making the system unusable.

Following information from Google searches and contacting DJI support directly, all the suggested fixes like changing the USB cable, trying different devices, reinstalling the DJI Go app, flushing cached data etc etc made zero difference. This seems to be a very common problem.

Rather than waiting 2-3 weeks to get this fixed by DJI or an approved repairer under warranty, I fixed the problem by replacing the HDMI/USB module. The USB connector is not great quality and I suspect a combination of power supply issues on the USB PCB and corroded USB connections (maybe it was on a ship from China for a long time) was causing this random and annoying behaviour.

I bought my replacement here in the UK https://www.firstpersonview.co.uk/dji-phantom-3-hdmi-output-module Although it says it's Phantom 3/4 it's the same as the Inspire module.

This is Part No. 54 and although is called HDMI Output Module (Phantom 3 Pro/Adv/Phantom 4) it is the same as the the PCB in the Inspire controller. DJI support claimed they are different boards, but my supplier said they were the same, so I took the risk. It appears DJI were wrong.

The serial number on the old and new PCBs are the same
