Will Smith's outburst at Chris Rock at the Oscars has painted him in a 'very bad light'

The Australian’s Media writer Sophie Elsworth says Chris Rock’s joke towards Will Smith’s wife, Jada, is one which should have been “thought twice about”.

It comes after Will Smith slapped Chris Rock live at the Oscars after the comedian made a joke towards Jada Pinkett-Smith.

The stand-up comedian suggested Pinkett-Smith, who is bald due to alopecia, would be making an appearance in "G.I Jane 2", a reference to the movie featuring actress Demi Moore, who shaved her head for the role.

“I’m putting a disclaimer here in case it comes out that this whole thing was a joke, which I don’t think it appears to be, I mean the way he reacted after that, sitting in his chair, screaming obscenities,” Ms Elsworth told Sky News host Chris Kenny.

“And then the woke crowd applauding him when he got his award almost like nothing had happened the whole thing was utterly bizarre, and I think it’s painted Will Smith in a very bad light.”
