Siberia’s ice-skating 76 y/o granny commutes on world’s DEEPEST lake
76-year-old grandma Lyubov Morekhodova runs a tiny farm on Olkhon Island in the middle of Lake Baikal.
To assist herding her cattle during the long winter months, the pensioner has taken to ice-skating on the lake, which is a mile deep (1.65km) and contains nearly a quarter of the world's fresh water.
Her skates are tied to traditional Russian valenki felt boots and date all the way back to 1943.
Despite the freezing temperatures in Siberia, Lyubov is not an ice-cold woman, living up to her name which translates as 'love.'
She feels upset for the Russian athletes who were barred from competing at the Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympic Games and the elderly Siberian wants to invite the whole Russian Olympic team to visit her.
Inspired by Lake Baikal and its breath-taking landscapes, in her spare time Morekhodova likes to sew.
"[In Baikal] You can see everything, especially in the summer. That is why my soul wants to sew such things," the babushka explained.
