27-year-old Alexander Cornell, a bartender at a restaurant in Ipswich, England, developed an obsession for his manager, an unnamed 39-year-old woman who’d repeatedly made it clear that she had no interest in a relationship with him. Cornell, nevertheless, gave her numerous gifts such as flowers, chocolates, underwear, a red dress and gym clothing. The woman changed gyms three times and Cornell showed up to each one in spite of the victim never telling him she’d left or re-joined elsewhere. He was also reported to have had her photo as the background of his Apple watch. Cornell eventually developed jealousy and hatred towards the woman’s partner, 41-year-old Blazej Piortowski, a chef at a restaurant in Bury St Edmunds. On July the 4th of 2022, Cornell was captured on CCTV in his Ford Fiesta as he followed Piortowski’s vehicle to a multi-level parking lot. He was arrested later that same day. After a trial lasting six days, Cornell was found guilty of attempted murder at Ipswich Crown Court, on May the 23rd of 2023. He was subsequently given a 20-year prison sentence with an extended license period of five years.
