Qantas nonstop flight lands in Sydney after long-haul journey | 7NEWS

Qantas has made aviation history, travelling nonstop on a 19-hour flight from New York to Sydney.

The flight of 50 passengers and crew took off from JFK Airport on its 16,000 km journey.

The first-of-its-kind commercial flight was used to conduct research to test human limits on long-haul flights.

"This is a really historic moment for Qantas, a really historic moment for Australian aviation and a really historic moment for world aviation. We're the first commercial airline to fly nonstop from New York to Sydney. This is part of our project Sunrise, and this is the first of three test flights that's going to come up with recommendations of how we manage pilot fatigue, how we actually manage passenger jet lag - and, after 19 hours on the flight, I think we've gotten this right." - Qantas CEO Alan Joyce
