Beale Street, Home of the Blues

Beale Street is a street in Downtown Memphis, Tennessee and a major tourist attraction due to it’s influence to the history of the Blues thus the street is aptly named the “Home of the Blues”. Blues clubs and restaurants famous for their award winning Memphis-Style Barbecue has put Memphis on the world map as Pork Barbecue Capital of the World and hosts the World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest each May.
Festivals and outdoor concerts are a regular occurrence in the area, the Beale Street Music Festival in particular held during the first week of May is a kickoff of a month of festivities known as Memphis in May attracting music acts from a variety of musical genres attended by large crowds of locals and tourists alike. The night after we were there was one of such festivities. What was mind blowing to me was witnessing large galvanized stock tanks being filled with beer the night before the festival and they leave all those beers out in the cold with no one watching over it!
It was quite a unique experience attending the festivities and sinking my teeth on real Memphis-style pork barbecue at the King’s Palace Café the “Home of Championship Gumbo” right on Beale Street itself.
