Writing for Film: Paul Schrader and Alex Ross Perry | NYFF56
Writer-directors Paul Schrader and Alex Ross Perry are each coming off of a remarkable movie year; the former’s First Reformed, with Ethan Hawke, was his biggest artistic and commercial success in decades, and the latter’s Her Smell, with Elisabeth Moss, is one of the daring highlights of this year’s NYFF. Though both Schrader and Perry have most often directed their own screenplays, they also have had experience writing scripts that others have directed. The two filmmakers discussed the art and process of writing for the screen in a wide-ranging, entertaining conversation moderated by NYFF Director Kent Jones. Presented by Warby Parker.
The 17-day New York Film Festival highlights the best in world cinema, featuring top films from celebrated filmmakers as well as fresh new talent. Since 1963, NYFF has brought new and important cinematic works from around the world to Lincoln Center. In addition to the Main Slate official selections, the festival includes newly restored classics, special events, filmmaker talks, panel discussions, the avant-garde showcase Projections, and much more.
