The Matra Murena was a 3-seat single row sports car with mid-engined rear wheel drive, produced from 1980 through 1983 by the French engineering group Matra.

The Murena was a quantum improvement on the Bagheera as it offered better performance, handling and, equally important, reduced rish of corrosion due to the hot dip galvanized body tub.
The visible body retained Matra’s technology of resin injected plastic mouldings, overall this underrated sportscar offers a terrific package to owners.
Three engine choices are available:

A nimble 1.6L, a torquey 2.2L and an ultimate 2.2 S, which sadly came along as the Murena was scarified to support production of the Espace for Renault.

Future development was on the drawing board that could have made this car a household name but it was destined fade out after only three years

In the last run of cars Matra built 480 'S' models which were 2.2-litre cars with the 'Prep 142' modifications included during production. A total of only 10,680 Murena were produced during its short 3 year life, just over half being 1.6 models, and a great car was killed off prematurely to satisfy Matra's new automotive partner.
