Kangaroo Mating, part 2: Copulation

After the pre-mating or courtship ritual lasting hours or days (steps 1 to 3), kangaroo mating begins when the female allows the male to grab her around the middle. He moves his back legs close to hers, and slightly to the side of her tail. He grabs her strongly, and can hold her for a while, but she can escape when she wants to. Kangaroo copulation is sometimes quite brief, but some pairs stay joined for 10 minutes or more.
