Blowing up the gradebook - using video games for learning: Chris Haskell at TEDxAmmon
Dr. Chris Haskell earned a 1.6 GPA in high school, but later went on to earn a doctorate degree in education. He's made it his life's passion, but not the traditional "by the gradebook" kind of education.
Chris demonstrates how education can be so much more rewarding for children when there are goal-based objectives and mechanisms for learning that provoke curiosity and creativity, not suppress it.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
