South Georgia - At The Edge of the World
Duncan Carse, explorer and actor, narrates this film about the island of South Georgia which is close to Antarctica and the Falkland Islands. He first visited in 1933 and returned on many occasions. The film shows the magnificent landscape and wildlife that exists there but also shows its dark side as a major whaling station, now totally abandoned to nature. I was fortunate to visit the island in 1982 when filming aboard HMS Endurance on what was intended to be it's final journey, but the Falklands war changed all that.
The experience of wandering through those whaling stations has never completely left me and this film captures the island beautifully.
