There is a tendency even among secular and radical intellectuals to glorify the ‘upanishads’ as great philosophical texts. The ‘philosophy’ contained in these texts is called “Dharsana” in indic languages. The very act of ‘dharsan’, being an ordinary sensori - motor activity, is not a cognitive activity, and hence, does not require ‘intelligence’. On the other hand, what we understand by the term ‘philosophy’ is a cognitive activity, requiring both intelligence and reason. In that sense, ‘philosophy’, the act of ‘abstract, conceptual thinking’ is the unique contribution of the Greek Society. Every archaic societies based on simple subsistence level economy have given rise upanishads - like narratives and myths. Those people who regard the primitive mythic narratives, called ‘Upanishads’ as ‘philosophical texts are those who could not grow from the ‘mythic’ stage of human evolution to the ‘theoretic’ stage. Unfortunately the average Hindu - Indian is still enthralled in the infantile and autistic kind of mind that had been originally instituted some 2500 - 3000 years ago. In that sense, an average Hindu - Indian mind is far behind the ‘universal, rational and scientific mind’ invented by the Greeks. The average Hindu - Indian mind can use the ‘products’ of the ‘European Rational Mind’, suchas i phones, rockets, missiles etc, but cannot accept the ‘cognitive process’ or the mind behind this products.
It is precisely this ‘primitivity’ of the average Hindu - Indian mind that is found expression in Hindutva organizations and ‘unlettered’ fascists like Narendra Modi. Any person who is ‘proud’ of the ‘territory’ where he/she happens to born and follow a charismatic leader, ceases to be a human being and stops to think for himself/ herself.
