Living with Stage 4 Cancer, Deb's Story

Deb, a Hendricks Regional Health patient and mother of two from Greencastle, still remembers the day she was diagnosed with Stage 4 metastatic triple-negative breast cancer.
“It was Friday the 13th of May 2011 and I never thought I’d see Christmas. I would have never believed that I would still be alive today,” she said.
Not only is Deb alive, she’s doing well. Her cancer has responded to a new clinical trial and she said, giving her “the most wonderful quality of life.”
“I feel like there’s a reason I’m still here and I don’t know what that is,” Deb said. “But if I can do something or say something to give someone else encouragement, that’s what makes life worthwhile for me.”
Deb says key message to others battling Stage 4 cancer, there is a reason to keep fighting, there is hope.
“I’ve learned that word hope, that’s a big word. It doesn’t mean hope for no cancer, but there’s hope for happiness, hope for joy, hope for strengthening your spirituality. It’s possible to have peace with Stage 4 cancer,” she said.
