The Ins (Brachytherapy) and Outs (External Beam) of Prostate Radiotherapy
OVERVIEW: This presentation is focused on explaining how radiation therapy works and describes the two main methods of delivering prostate radiotherapy – brachytherapy and external beam radiotherapy. It reviews the main treatment options for low, intermediate and high risk prostate cancer, focusing on the radiotherapy options. This is a video that men and their families may find useful in explaining the different types of radiation and some of the reasons why one modality may be preferred compared to the other options.
SPEAKER: Dr Danny Vesprini is a Radiation Oncologist specializing in Prostate Cancer at the Sunnybrook Odette Cancer Centre, Affiliate Scientist at the Sunnybrook Research Institute and an Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto. He is one of the Principle Investigators of the Sunnybrook Active Surveillance Program, the Director of the Male Oncology Research and Education (MORE) program which focuses on men that have developed or are at a high risk of developing aggressive prostate cancer.
