Interested in human learning, Dr. Khul highlighted potential ways to leverage insights from neuroscience to revolutionize the way children are taught. She discussed the neuroplasticity of children, especially in infancy, and how their brains are easily impacted by social interactions. Dr. Kuhl presented an experiment that uses MEG scans to monitor sensory and motor-sensory brain activation in infants, noting their quick adaptability in Mandarin only when in live interaction versus television or audio-listening. Dr. Kuhl also highlighted her lab’s engagement with discovering effective ways to foster bilingualism in babies.
