Mars STEM Education During a Pandemic | SXSW EDU 2022

During the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic in the U.S., NASA was landing a rover on Mars. The Education Office at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory had an opportunity to engage students in real-life science and engineering. But early 2021 presented the challenge of doing it all remotely. Learn from Ota Lutz, Kim Orr, and Lyle Tavernier how NASA's Mission to Mars Student Challenge brought together more than one million K-12 students around the world to design their own Red Planet mission in the lead up to the Perseverance Mars rover landing.
