Marat Bakpayev. Robots: Past, Present, and Future.

Description: Robots are not science-fiction anymore. We can face actual robots in factories, in schools, in hospitals, in hotels, or in our homes. We increasingly interact with machines, be it chatbots, voice assistants, or service robots. In this lecture, we will seek to unpack the idea of robots. More specifically:
• We will trace the history of robots, from the early days of robot mythology to current developments.
• We will explore modern-day robots from the design perspective, especially when robots are built to look or talk like humans.
• We will outline the use of robots - primarily in consumption and marketing - and develop a discussion into the future of robots in our society.
The lecture is not focusing on engineering or technical aspects of robots. Rather, we will explore robots from sociological and psychological viewpoints.
Author: Marat Bakpayev is a marketing researcher at the University of Minnesota. His research is focused on robots in consumption and marketing contexts.
