4x4 S10 Blazer Budget V8 Swap (Ep.2)
Blood, sweat, tears, and a Small Block Chevy. Join us as the venerable S10 Blazer gets a Chevy 350 in place of the 4.3L, there are lots of trials along the way and some questionable engineering, but an awesome ride comes out of it.
The truck + the engine ended up costing around $285 together. (Engine $225, truck $200, then sold the TBI equipment off of them.) For the record, estimated total spent on this truck is right around $1500 by the end of this episode (not including tags and registration). So, certainly not as low budget as it initially seems, but I think still well within the constraints for calling this a "cheap" project.
Last episode ended with the “death” of the V6, this episode goes through a lot of what was involved in putting a V8 into a vehicle that never came with one (though, admittedly the 4.3L was pretty darn similar to a SBC). It'd be impossible (and impractical) to show everything, and it is hardly a finished build at the end of this episode, but all of the major aspects are covered here. Everyone and their mother's labrador V8 swaps S10s, but I couldn't find much documentation on the 4WD models so I found it pretty tricky and basically made the plan as we went along.
Things aren't finished, for sure, so next episode will cover the final few bits to make it roadworthy. Quickly approaching the one-year anniversary of buying this truck, I really hope to be driving it around by then!
Timeline of filming: February 5th, 2017 – April 9th, 2017
