Completing an ironman on a borrowed heart | Derek Fitzgerald | TEDxBedminster
This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. After a decade of surviving one health nightmare after the next, Derek has infused his unique perspective on healthcare with his technology experience, creating his own patient-based care system.
The process took years off of his recovery regimen and returned him to a level of health that has exceeded all expectations, including becoming the first cancer survivor/heart transplant recipient to complete one of the world’s most grueling endurance events, the IRONMAN triathlon.
Derek spent the last ten years surviving Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, heart failure, and ultimately a heart transplant.
He dedicates his life toward helping others going through their own healthcare journeys.
He has created successful tech companies that specialize in building innovative solutions.
About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
