1968 was the year when the fabric of American society seemed to be tearing apart. Two towering figures, Martin Luther King Jr. and Robert Kennedy, were assassinated at the peak of the civil rights movement. The war in Vietnam was costing thousands of young lives and there were anti-war protests in the streets.
