PMMA - The Long Blue Line

These are photos I took when I was a Professor at the Philippine Merchant Marine Academy. This was back in 2012-2015. A lot of them were used for the school's publications like calendars, brochures, etc. This tribute montage shows but a glimpse of the various activities that cadets of this institution are immersed in.

Established in 1820 by Spanish Royal decree as the Escuela Nautica de Manila. Renamed during the American occupation as the Nautical School of the Philippine Islands in 1899 and again as the Philippine Nautical School in 1900. It was closed in 1907 due to lack of budgetary support from the Insular Government but was re-opened in 1913 as the Nautical Department of the Philippine School of Arts and Trades. In 1918, it was re-established as the Philippine Nautical School and transferred to its own campus at Roberts Street in Pasay. In 1963, it was converted into the Philippine Merchant Marine Academy by virtue of RA 3680. The Academy was transferred to Fort Bonifacio in 1968. After three decades in Fort Bonifacio, it was again transferred to its current site at San Narciso, Zambales in 1998.
