* Milim ( מילים - Words) is a song by Harel Skaat. Its the Israeli entry in the ESC 2010 where it finished 14th despite being one of the favorites.

It was selected by juries' & public votes. It received maximum points from all juries & the televoters.

Israel swept the Eurovision sanctioned Marcel Bezencon Awards. Adaddi & Horev won the Composer Award, Skaat won the Artistic Award for best singer & the Press Award for best entry. The awards are selected by participating composers, accredited press, media & commentators of the ESC.

Adaddi said, "We didn't write the song for the Eurovision, as much as for Harel Skaat."

Skaat released a French & an English version of the song. It also has been reported that Skaat plans to record a Spanish version.
"Milim" was a hit on Israeli radio stations throughout the Spring of 2010 & spent a total of 5 weeks at no1 on the Reshet Gimmel Chart.

Skaat said, "The song 'Milim' is about separation of any kind. Of lovers, of a family. In Hebrew, Milim means words. The words are the most memorable thing we have after a separation, words are very powerful & they are engraved in our minds and hearts. Sadly, my beloved grandfather suddenly passed away the week of the Israeli pre-selection competition, which gave the lyrics of Milim a very personal & difficult meaning to me."

The Russian version of the song (Слова остались мне) was presented on Ukrainian X-Factor, 2012. Belarusian singer Eugene Litvinkovich released it.

* The ESC 2010 was the 55th edition of the annual contest. It took place in Oslo, Norway, following Alexander Rybak's win at the 2009 contest in Moscow, Russia with Fairytale. Its the 3rd time Norway had hosted the contest.
The contest was held at the Telenor Arena & consisted of two semi-finals & the final. The 3 shows were hosted by Erik Solbakken, Haddy N'jie & Nadia Hasnaoui.

39 countries took part in the contest. Andorra, the Czech Republic, Hungary & Montenegro all decided against participation, mainly for financial reasons related to the global financial crisis.

The winner was Germany with the song Satellite, by Lena. This was Germany's 2nd victory in the contest. Turkey, Romania, Denmark & Azerbaijan rounded out the top 5.

The global financial crisis at the time, affected how the event was run; the host broadcaster NRK was forced to sell its broadcast rights for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in order to finance the event.
A return of accompaniment by orchestra was also proposed, but did not happen.

* The Eurovision Song Contest is an international song competition organised annually by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU).
Based on the Sanremo Music Festival held in Italy since 1951, ESC has been held annually (apart from 2020) since 1956, making it the longest-running annual international televised music competition & one of the world's longest-running tv programmes.

52 countries have participated. Each participating broadcaster sends 1 original song of 3 min duration or less to be performed live. Each country awards two sets of points to their favourite songs, based on the views of an assembled group of music professionals & the country's viewing public, with the song receiving the most points declared the winner.

Other performances feature alongside the competition, with past acts including Cirque du Soleil, Madonna, Riverdance, Aqua, Justin Timberlake.
Originally consisting of a single event, the contest has expanded as new countries joined, leading to the creation of semi-finals in the 2000s. As of 2020, Germany has competed more times than any other country, having participated in all but one edition, while Ireland holds the record for the most victories, with 7 wins in total.

It held in the country which won the preceding year's event, the contest provides an opportunity to promote the host country & city as a tourist destination. It has aired in countries across all continents & ranks among the world's most watched non-sporting events.

Many famous music artists have competed including ABBA, Celine Dion, Julio Iglesias, Olivia Newton-John, Nana Mouskouri, Cliff Richard, Baccara, t.A.T.u., Las Ketchup, Patricia Kaas, Engelbert Humperdinck, Bonnie Tyler, Francoise Hardy, France Gall, Goran Bregović, Diane Warren, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Timbaland, Blue, Dulce Pontes, Michael Ball, Serge Lama, Al Bano, Colm Wilkinson, Lara Fabian, Patrick Fiori, Natasha St-Pier, Anouk, Hooverphonic.
