Raking Hay with 560 Farmall/ Baling Hay With a New Idea 551 Square Baler
Saturday the 13th, we spent the day at our nearby consignment equipment auction, where Alan purchased a wood splitter. Come Sunday, the hay was ready to be raked and baled. Alan's brother Paul raked with the 560 Farmall and V rake. Alan got the elevator set up, and got the baler and wagons greased. We use a New Idea 551 Square Baler that Alan's Grandpa bought new. It makes a nice tight bale. We use hay baskets instead of flat racks for the most part, because it's hard to find help to stack wagons and unload. With two fields cut, we got 4 loads and 413 bales. We could definitely use more hay, but until we are blessed with some much needed rain, we are grateful for what we got so far.
