When it comes to supercars, we tend to think about style over safety, but even multi-million dollar vehicles like the Bugatti Veyron and Pagani Huayra aren’t safe from crash tests. Manufacturers have crashed, crushed, and rolled some of their very best cars to make sure all the work they put into their safety features was worth it. But from Tesla to Ferrari to Lamborghini, it hurts to see these coveted cars being repeatedly smashed.

It can take three months to prepare a car for a series of crash tests, and each vehicle undergoes an average of six. It’s not just the car that’s expensive-- crash test dummies can cost as much as $125,000 dollars each, and they're decked out with technology making them perfect for recording crash test data. Multi-million dollar simulation software can also be used to limit the amount of physical tests and some companies even repair their destroyed models between tests to save money. While the average testing prototype is worth $250,000, some are worth much more, like the Koenigsegg Regera, a $2 million supercar which is repeatedly repaired every time it's destroyed. Though, destroying the Regera seems like a reasonable idea when you consider the record-breaking multi-million dollar McLaren F1 that was also tested.
