Welcome to Head Proportions Part 3 - The Three-Quarter view
This is from the how to draw a head at any angle serious. I hope you enjoy and give me a like. Head proportions are difficult at times but with enough practice you can draw from your imagination any head at any angle without reference photos.

The 3/4 view head has the elements of both the "front and side face"
It has both a vertical and horizontal axis representing the browline and centerline.
The nose is a great subject to study when seeing the angle of the head. To simply it we can see it as a pyramid like structure,
The shelf of the eyesocket will be quite prominent in the 3/4 view so look out for its angle too.
First when starting to draw the head i like to see the cranium as a sphere then i usually establish
the centerline and browline. Good landmarks to consider are the angle of the keystone shape between the brow and the
pyramid shape of the nose. once you add these landmarks the rest is quite simple.
When looking at the nose from the side we see that one plane will be more visible than the others. If the head is tilted back the bottom plane will show
more . In the case that head is titled forward the bottom plan will no longer be visible. When drawing the head from straight on
our perfect thirds will be intact. If tilted up or down the rule of our perfect thirds experiences forshortening where objects closer to us appear
larger and objects away from us appear smaller. For further explanation on this concept take a look at my one point perpective video.
a good observance to notice is when the head is tilted back the nose may overlap the eye, or when tilted forward it may overlap the mouth.
Finally when first starting out i recommend creating a ball as you see here and cutting off the sides, then dividing it into thirds and so on. Then putting that ball
into different positions and drawing them as accurately as you can. This is a good excercise and trains you to see the head as a 3D object.
Now that we looked at these concepts we can look at some drawing examples i made for the 3/4 view. first we'll look at the head straight on
then from the top and then from the bottom and finally other side. Mastering all 6 positions from front view, side, 3/4 and up and down makes
extreme angles that much easier to draw. So without further ado lets apply this information into practice.
