John Wayne had been in the business since the 1920s and this was the first film he produced . By this time he really knew how to make a movie . He cast Gail Russell as the leading female in this film and Bruce Cabot and Harry Carey in major roles . The Harris Poll released in January of 2011 puts John Wayne 3rd in America's favorite film stars he is the only deceased star on the list and the only one who has appeared on the poll every year since it first started in 1994 . I really think this is in with the best 100 westerns ever made . This is one of my favorite westerns and everytime i watch this movie it even seems better than i remembered .
