Voyager Is Powering Down After 45 Years in Space

NASA has begun turning off the Voyager Spacecraft's systems, signalling the beginning of the end of the probe's 45-year career.

The year was 1977, and in the premise of NASA, humanity was gearing itself to test not only its limitations but also the boundaries of the solar system. It was preparation for the paramount adventure, to go boldly where no man has gone before.

With the launch of an unmanned mission, Voyager One and Two, humanity began its greatest journey ever. The uncrewed probes were not only about visiting all the planets of our system that were beyond our reach till then but also, they would travel past all the outer planets in the great beyond outside our solar system. The Voyager mission fundamentally transformed our grasp of the solar system, and how it came into being.

But now, after so many years, that journey is coming to an end. With the two probes pretty much running on fumes, we are witnessing the end of an era of space exploration. Centuries from now, if humans made it out of our solar system, they will look back at these probes as the early precursor of their achievement.

Welcome to Factnomenal, and today on the eve of Voyager 1 and 2’s retirement, we are going to look back at their incredible journey and what they have achieved for us.
