Azden SGM-990 Shotgun Microphone (DSLR)

A review of the Azden SGM-990 Shotgun Microphone for DSLRs/DSLMs. Azden is a Japanese company which has been producing audio equipment for 65 years. This model is a shotgun microphone for use with DSLR/DSLM cameras utilizing a standard 3.5mm audio jack. Overall quality is good when mounted on camera, but as with all shotgun mics, it'll perform better on a dedicated boom arm.

The SGM-990 model reviewed has been discontinued, but may still be found online.

A newer model, the SGM-990+i has replaced it and as far as I can tell is the same thing, just with the added capability of using it on smartphones and tablets.
