Japanese Geisha and Maiko - Kyoto 1946 | AI Enhanced Film [ 60 fps]

Two Japanese Geisha and a Maiko filmed in Kyoto Japan in the Spring of 1946.
It's not widely known that Kyoto was the original target for the second atomic bomb, but was reprieved at the last moment at the insistence of US Secretary of War Henry Stimson. His argument being that it was a place of cultural significance. Stimson had visited Kyoto on his honeymoon in the 1920s.

It's sobering to imagine a world and a time when the fates of hundreds of thousands of civilians were considered with such cold blooded calculation. Kyoto was spared the horror of a nuclear blast.
and these three young women survived along with 800,000 other souls.

How to distinguish a Geisha 芸者 from a Maiko 舞妓
The Maiko ( in the middle) has the classic dangling Kanzashi, cupids bow lips and natural hair. The Geisha have full painted lips, a wig and simpler hair ornaments. Junior Maiko tend to paint only the lower lip, while senior Maiko paint the bow on top and bottom lip. Important stuff !
