How To Draft Trending Cascading/Wave/Waterfall Ruffle Train Video Part 1
*******************PLEASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSE READ**************
This "video" shows how I made my cascading ruffle train. This video should give you an idea of how to make yours.
I recommend this for intermediate to advanced sewers/designers
Pattern I used: MsVStylzcreations on Etsy
https://www.etsy.com/listing/690299136/ruffles-train-pattern
*****Disclaimer
I purposely speed the video up to shorten it(the video was 35 minutes long)
You can pause the video or go into settings to slow the video down
I used "my measurements" in this video:
-Thigh circumference (31.25")
-Desired skirt length (32")
My flounce pattern(from my ruffled train pattern) that I currently sell on Etsy.
What "I" used to achieve my cascading ruffle train.
-30 yards of matte satin - Five yards for panels
- One yard for lining (*half circle skirt)
- 24 yards for flounces
-100 yards of horsehair braid
How I achieve the base pattern(what the ruffles will be sewn onto)?
I took "my" thigh circumference (31.25) and divided it by 6(number of panels):
31.50/6= 5.25
5.25" is the measurement for the top of the panel
32" is my desired length
16" is the measurement for the bottom of the panel(my desired width) you can go up to 22"
******************I used a quarter scale to draft the back pattern pieces because a full size scale would not fit into the frame.
********************Disclaimer*************************
My train is not as full as the inspiration picture because I used what I had on hand and this was only for the purpose of this video.
To achieve the exaggerated ruffles(using my pattern) here are some suggestions:
-Lengthen the Flounce a few inches(will require more fabric and horsehair braid)
-Add more Flounces around each panel(may be too thick to sew if you add more than five or six flounces and will require more fabric and horsehair braid)
-Add more flounces in between panels(will require more fabric and horsehair braid)
Things I would have done differently:
-had enough fabric...…….lol
-use a combination of satin fabric and another lightweight fabric such a organza(the train is heavy)
-made a petticoat
-Opted out of cutting the flounces at an angle.I should have left them as is after cutting one end open( that's what helps with the fullness at the bottom)
Suggested fabrics: Woven fabrics such as satin and organza
* "I" would consider using non-stretch taffeta or even tulle
Estimated fabric and notions needed:
-------------If you decide to use my pattern as is and/or lengthen
-Small flounces 12-16 yards (using only three flounces
panel)
-Large flounces 25-34 yards(using only three flounces
panel)
*if you chose to add more flounces around and/or in
between you will need more fabric
-2- 4" horsehair braid(multiply the amount of fabric you purchase by three
*******I hope I covered everything, if not feel free to leave your question in the comments and I will do my best to answer.
*******I welcome "constructive criticism"
