'That Day we went to Templin' 🇩🇪 The Abandoned Stasi Hotel

We took our bikes out of Berlin for the day, and headed towards Templin, which is in the district of Brandenburg, Germany. We had previously read about an abandoned 'Stasi' Hotel that had not been completed, and so we just had to get the train to Templin, and go and see this hotel for ourselves!

The Stasi hotel was due to open in Templin in 1991 but it was abandoned before completion.
Once the Berlin wall had fallen, the Stasi soon had it on their toes and away, leaving this half built hotel behind to sit quietly along in the forest. A few people do stop by from time to time, like the local graffiti artists for one, and wayward explorers for another.

MfS-Ferienheim Buchheide, codenamed FH150, was to have 180 bedrooms, a swimming pool, sauna, bar, and bowling alley, and all exclusive to the Stasi officers and their families. All plans for the hotel were effectively ruined overnight on Nov. 9th 1989, and as the Berlin wall crumbled, so did the GDR and the Secret Police!
