Family car review: BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe 218i 2020

The BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe 218i is a great looking car, especially in this colour. There was definitely something stealth and shark-like about it! It is also GREAT to drive! It really hugs the road and the low seating position and roofline gives it a really stable feel especially on bendy country roads. How does this all translate as a BabyDrive? Let's find out...

One of my favourite family features is the boot, where there is about 10cm of extra depth available under the floor. Great for storing things underneath out of sight but also for extra depth when transporting prams and bikes!

Using the lowered floor we could get a tandem pram in the boot with a couple of bags of shopping. Without that lower floor, it would not fit.

From empty the boot of the 2020 #BMW2Series Gran Coupe 218i will hold twelve shopping bags, that's pretty good as it's only one less than the Kia Stinger and Volvo S60 that are both far larger cars, while the VW Arteon and Toyota Corolla can both hold 15 bags. The 2 Series Gran Coupe's SUV equivalent is the BMW X2 which can hold 10 shopping bags. You can't transport a dog in the boot of the 2020 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe 218i because of the fixed parcel shelf.

I also LOVE the auto-lock and unlock on this model. The doors automatically lock as I walk away from the car and it makes an audible locking sound so you know it's secured. It's fantastic for not having to search about in your handbag for your keys and also to keep your hands free for carrying kids or ll their stuff!

There are only two top tether anchorages in the 2020 #BMW #2Series #GranCoupe #218i and two ISOFix points, both for the rear outer seats only.

I tried to sit in the central seat and at 162cm there wasn't enough room for me. Two child seats fitted in the outer seats however there are some considerations.

The roofline is very low in the back and at 162cm I could sit in the outer seats with a tiny bit of room above my head which also is a problem for larger child seats. Especially the forward-facing and booster seats that are quite tall so physically fitting them in through the doors and into the seats can be a problem.

Also, legroom is tight. With a forward-facing child seat, we could fit a 182cm passenger in front. With a rear-facing child seat or infant capsule, we could only fit a 162cm driver in front.
