This evening we made fritulice with Baka. Fritulice are little doughnut holes, which are a very popular Croatian dessert, especially around Christmas time. They are often sold on the streets throughout Zagreb during Advent, and the streets are filled with this fantastic scent!
Fritulice are very easy to make, there aren't too many ingredients, and the whole process takes about 30 mins.
Baka likes to add a grated apple to the batter to keep the fritulice from drying out too much. Other people put in orange or lemon grind, and often others add raisins as well.
Here's the recipe:
- 2 eggs
- 2 tablespoons of sugar
- 2 packs of vanilla sugar
- 2 mugs of Greek yoghurt
- 20 tablespoons of flour (more if needed to get the right consistency)
- 12 grams of baking powder
- 1 grated apple
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
Mix the ingredients listed in the order above, then take a spoonful of batter and drop in a pot with heated oil.
The fritulice will start to turn over by themselves when they're ready, and they'll flip to the other side. Once both sides are golden brown, they're ready to toss in powdered sugar. You can also put chocolate or jam or other toppings as well!
Enjoy!
