DIY Polymer Clay Earrings Tutorial, Marbled Clay Gold Leaf Stud Earrings by Timber & Chain

If you want a great and simple craft, or a new hobby, polymer (or oven-bake) clay is a blast to work with alone or with kids...or with friends and a margarita. Pour one for me and go make something amazing!

EDIT! I should have said this is not the traditional way to make clay stud earrings, nor is it the most refined or exact. I really just wanted to show the simplest way to make something fun with materials you have on hand, without having to renovate your home, build an artist's studio, and invest in a lot of fancy clay tools. If you're not a professional jeweler or clay artist, this works just fine and it's really fun. Sure, the glue may not stay for 20 years, but do you want to wear these 20 years from now? And if you're making them for yourself, or as gifts, and you're not opening a business around this technique, there's no harm in trying and having a great time with it. We made a lot of them a couple years ago and my daughters love them and wear them often, so they do last and still look great. I will say, I've sold plenty of these (no sanding!) but I do either embed the earrings into the clay, or use a larger drill bit to make a shallow hole (not all the way through the back of the earring) to match the size of the earring backs, then glue them in there.
