Since 1990, Independent Power Producers (IPPs) have been producing costly energy for Pakistan in the times of energy crisis till 2015. Previous governments used to sign agreements with IPPs on high tariff subsequently selling it to the consumer on higher cost.

However, under Imran Khan's government, civil-military leadership negotiated and renewed the agreements with IPPs and convinced them to produce energy on cheaper costs saving billions of Pakistan's wealth.
