At this moment we are ready to finish the environment around the portrait. I had a base color representing each area around the hair, the background and the blouse she is wearing; after that layer dries, we can focus on each element at the time to bring it to completion. Experience how I treat each area with a different approach to create an organic balance throughout the piece. We often rush through less important elements thinking that the key to a portrait is the rendering and expression of the sitter but, every aspect of the painting needs to be consider very carefully before finishing the flesh, which will be taught in the next and last video of this series.
