#21_Challenge French: Day22
Speaking with my French teacher after 21 days of intense FOCUS on French.
Yesterday was the last day of my 21Challenge French & I really enjoyed this journey! Of course, I could've done more.. I could've spoken more often, I could've studied harder. BUT!
There's always this thing called "LIFE" happening around :)
And that's one of the reasons we give up when we learn a language. I did the same thing with English & German before. Btw, I still don't speak German :D
But if you get passionate about the language - if you find anything about it that gives you goosebumps - you're on the right track! Then you really can get fluent!
-
So, yesterday (actually it's 00:40 of the 3rd of September now, so the day before yesterday :D) was my last day of the 21Challenge French, which was one of the coolest things that happened this summer!
First of all, it was fun, because I had never attempted learning French before.
So it was quite interesting to take on the challenge & see how much progress I can make :)
-
Secondly, French is a beautiful language & I loved all the music I've been listening to & all the movies too! To sum it all up:
-
1)I've tried a new learning method called "Michel Thomas audio course". It's a "Listen-reply" kinda thing. I was usually studying French while walking or doing chores (cooking, washing dishes, etc.)
-
2)Besides, I've had more than 10 hours Skype sessions with italki teachers & language partners speaking only French. Plus, all the opportunities to throw a phrase or two while road-tripping in France :)
-
3)I have listened to ...hmmm... 50 hours? of music :) At least 1 hour daily & sometimes (if there was a long BlaBlaCar ride) 5 hours! As for me, it's one of the best ways to ABSORB the language. Immerse into the target language environment like a little kid!
-
4)And, of course, I've watched some great movies (mainly by Luc Besson): Léon; Taxi 1,2,3; Yamakasi I still have Amelie, Les Intouchables (aka "1+1") & of course, Taxi 4 + Taxi 5. By the way, they were filming Taxi 5 in Marseille right when I was visiting ;)
-
Here are my conclusions:
1) A clear goal with a deadline helps you compress months into weeks (ESPECIALLY if it's publically stated & there's some MONEY/SHAME ON STAKE!)
2) The more you speak the better you speak (DUH?).
Plus, you learn the best vocabulary, because it's related to your life & interests (unlike learning 40 different animals & 20 colors at school, remember?)
3) The more things you enjoy listening/watching the faster you absorb the language - just like a little kid ;)

Learn languages guys! They help you have beautiful experiences, which you wouldn't've had otherwise ;)
