Alcohol Ink Wispy Abstract Process (#4)

Another no sound video! If you’re looking for an exciting video with bells & whistles you have come to the wrong place. BUT...if you’re looking for a visual semi tutorial on making an abstract alcohol ink painting....this is for you!! If you just like to watch process videos, this is for you too! (This is slow, I like to keep these videos in close to real time for people just starting out with inks.) This painting was made with alcohol inks and alcohol markers. I like the addition of markers to the diluted alcohol ink that I generally use. It results in some beautiful blended color combinations and I use less ink! If you found your way here, you probably have a general understanding of alcohol ink and are looking for the details...I used Creatology plastic poster board as my substrate. I have found this to work well when using alcohol markers as they can stain some papers. (This wipes almost clean!) I buy this at Michael’s in 28”x22” sheets and cut them down to 11”x14”. The ink that I put down at the beginning is Ranger Wild Plum, Piñata Magenta, and Piñata Purple Passion mixed with alcohol. No rhyme or reason, just put a few drop of each into 99% isopropyl alcohol. I’m using Artist Loft Alcohol markers, also from Micheals, and only because I had a 55% coupon for the set!! I can’t attest to these being good or bad quality...they’re the only ones I own! I also used my much loved Piñata Brass. I have it in a small bottle but hate when a big drip plops out and ‘muddies’ up my ink. Sometimes I just add a bit to my palette knife and just kind of dip a little in so that it doesn’t overpower everything! You’re probably wondering what I am using to blow my inks around...I know it looks odd....I’m using an old C-Pap machine. It gives a nice flow (adjustable) and it’s cool air. Just another tool on my work table!!! (Next to my hot air gun, 2 blow dryers, straws, camera bulb cleaner, canned air, air compressor!!) I also used my airbrush set at 25 PSI in some parts. I did work on it a bit more after I finished the video, most notably, I put some ink on a paper towel and rubbed it around in circles to give a nice blurry, blended look. (Hope that makes sense!) I think that’s it...if you have any questions, just put them in the comments. Hope you enjoyed my video!
