UNODC-WCO-CCP Wildlife Trafficking

Wildlife crime refers to the taking, trading, importing, exporting, processing, possessing, obtaining and consumption of wild fauna and flora, including timber and other forest products, in contravention of national or international law.

It is not only the killing, or the poaching or the shooting, it is also the buying, the selling and even the consumption. It is also about parts and derivatives, products made of those animals and plants.

Training on wildlife trafficking is not only about identifying wildlife products, but also about identifying high-risk shipments. Identification of species is important, and CCP trains participants to a certain level in identification of species.

UNODC-WCO-CCP uses an integrated approach to detect wildlife trafficking and help facilitate related investigations and prosecutions. In the past few years, the CCP seized ivory, pangolin scales and rhino horns.
CCP Wildlife activities are currently supported by the European Union, Norway, and the United States of America.
