Marble polish
Skill Level: Intermediate.
Approximate Time: 10 minutes or less.
Overview: For deep scratches or worn surfaces, a power grinder/polisher with diamond polishing pads can be used to expedite the repair. After repair, buffing will restore the surface to the original shine.
Tools and Materials
• Grinder (low or varied speed) with Backer Pad
• Felt buffing/polishing pad - 4"
• Clean, soft, lint-free cloth
• Polishing powder
• Diamond polishing pads - 4"
(grit abrasives: 50, 100, 200, 400, 800, 1500, 3000)
• Steel wool (Fine: #0000)
Personal Protective Equipment
• Safety Glasses & Gloves
• Face Mask
Technique
1. Gather tools and materials needed and clean the repair area.
2. Prepare grinder by attaching a 4" backer pad and appropriate grit diamond abrasives depending on the degree of damage. The full grit range is: 50, 100, 200, 400, 800, 1500 and 3000.
a. For heavy damage start with 50 or 100 grit.
b. For light damage start with 400 grit.
3. Grind repair area (at 2000 - 2500 RPM) using smooth even motions until the damage has been removed.
4. Repeat the above process using remaining grit range up through 3000 until the surface is smooth and reflective.
**Note: For rounded edges, use a 3" flex pad with diamond pads.
5. Mix polishing powder with water to make a paste, and apply to surface area. For best results, use similar colors to stone. e.g. Dark Granite, Light Granit or Marble.
6. Prepare grinder by attaching a 4" felt buffing/polishing pad and polish surface with polishing powder paste.
7. Apply final polishing paste with a cloth.
8. Remove any polish residue with cloth or steel wool. Buff with clean, soft, lint-free cloth to the original shine.
