22,000 ft.. almost - High Altitude PARAMOTOR - Engine stops 4 miles up.

Climbing Past 21,000, approaching 22,000 the engine coughed and then stopped. Being over 4 miles above the earth and out of fuel, it was going to be a long glide back down. Attempting to break the world paramotor altitude record in 2015, 11 months of planning and a great team we were all set to challenge the world altitude record.
The flight was conducted 3 Oct 2015, taking off from Chatteris airfield in Cambridgeshire in the UK. The winds were light and stable, the team were all set, the airspace had been cleared and all the way to FL300.

Chatteris airfield is only 6ft above sea level so it was going to be a long climb to try and get to 26,oooft to break the existing FAI world record set in Pakistan.

The limiting factors would be the cold and the amount of fuel I could carry. I emptied the tank in 1 hour 50 minutes. Once the engine had stopped it was the most surreal experience of my life. Flying back down took over an hour, landing only 30 meters from where I had departed 3 hours earlier.

A huge thank you to Paul Bailey of Bailey Aviation for making a fantastic and powerful machine.
Paul Mahony for being the chase pilot, Micheal Roche for all the airspace co-ordination, and my 2 friends who stepped in at the last minutes to provide ground support and medical cover.

I will probably never do anything link this again, it was a chance of a lifetime.
